More Than a Renovation—An Investment in Hope.
.
We're proud to announce the completion of Phase I renovations at the DeKalb Regional Crisis Center (DRCC)—one of Georgia's busiest behavioral health crisis facilities and a lifeline for individuals experiencing mental health and substance use emergencies.
More than $2 million was invested to modernize client treatment areas and bathrooms, creating a safer, more welcoming, and therapeutic environment for those in crisis. The project was made possible through a $1.7 million investment from Claratel Behavioral Health's Board of Directors and $340,000 from DeKalb County.
Most importantly, the crisis center remained open, operating 24/7 throughout construction, ensuring uninterrupted care for our community. With Phase I complete, the DRCC has returned to its full capacity of 36 crisis stabilization beds and 6 temporary observation beds, expanding access to compassionate, lifesaving behavioral healthcare for those who need it most.
We extend our sincere gratitude to DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners, Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) Commissioner Kevin Tanner, and DBHDD Region 3 for their partnership and commitment to strengthening behavioral healthcare in our community.
We also thank the DeKalb County Police Department, municipal police departments throughout DeKalb County, DeKalb Fire Rescue, and Emory Healthcare for their continued collaboration in helping individuals in crisis receive timely access to care.
And we're not stopping here! Phase II is already on the horizon with more than $1.2 million in DeKalb County SPLOST II funding, bringing additional infrastructure upgrades that will further strengthen this critical community resource.
Together, we're building a stronger behavioral health system—one that provides hope, healing, and access to care for every person who walks through our doors.
